Okular word selection on double click

I've just commited a change that implements a wish created 3 years ago "Double click to select words".

Another little nice feature for Okular :-)

It felt good doing some actual coding instead of being the code review monkey I am these days in the KDE/poppler worlds.

/me goes back to the boringness of reviewing other people's code :-/

  3. Yay for some more love for Okular. It is an amazing piece of software. Thank you and all the other Okular and Poppler developers out there.

One question: what about Adobe's more recent PDF 'standards,' such as the tiled (?) compression the recent versions do? Such files look rather crappy in Okular.

  4. Nice but can we get some more visible tools? It's hard to new users to understand that you need to click and wait to select other tools, don't you think that zoom/text selection should be more accessible?

  5. @Anonymous1: Where's the bug report about that?

@Anonymous2: There's an arrow there, a metaphor used in millions of places. And if people is not able to gasp such an advanced concept they can use to Tools menu. And if you don't like it, there's always the configure toolbar menu option :-)

  6. Yeah I know, I'm concerned about regular or new users because you have to hold that button awhile to see other options, it should be instantaneous don't you think? I'm more like advanced user and I had hard time to figure it out that I need to click and WAIT. Look how it's done in Kile! That's expected behavior for buttons-with-arrows-kind-of-thing. It's simple, intuitive and it works

PS as a user you should think more globally and make that left panels behave the same way in gwenview and in okular. I mean: how the hell I'm supposed to hide this things on the left in Okular?! (gwenview alows easily to hide sidebar, but icon for that is hideous though - I'm not trying to bash you, I admire your work but if you want to make KDE better people should work together make applications consistent)

I really like Okular it's great app :)

PS Can't wait to get kile/latex live preview!! When should I expect that?

    Cheers :)

Using that old fanished thing called menus

"Can't wait to get kile/latex live preview!! When should I expect that?"
No idea, ask the kile developers

I've missed that, thanks but don't you see the poin there? In Okular which is KDE default application "show navigation panel" is in SETTINGS menu, sidebar in Gwenview (also default KDE app) is in VIEW menu... and similar things have different shortcuts F7 in Okular, F11 in Gwenview I don't know who has right here but I know that USERS are hurting! That's why I was talking about consistency shared between KDE applications. Kile for instance have "show side panel" also in SETTINGS menu but F7 shortcut is doing something different...

  9. Users are hurting so much that you are the first ever to complain.

  10. Yeah... maybe others just don't give a crap. Don't you want to make KDE better? Isn't this all about? If it doesn't matter make for instance alt+f4 kill xorg, enter to behave like escape and enter like space who cares it's just your application and it must work as you want, users doesn't matter.

  11. This is what i get for discussing with anonymous people in the internet, they start speaking nonsense as soon as you disagree with them.

If you want to improve KDE get involved, putting comments in my blog won't do anything useful.
