Second Linux Kernel patch accepted

After my first ever Linux Kernel patch 8 years ago (yes I'm getting old) i successfully got a new one accepted a few weeks ago that fixes the temperature problem i was having with my laptop. Yay for scratching your own itch :-)

How did you debug your issue and reach the conclusion that you needed a fix in the kernel?

@apol: The link to the patch is there in front of your eyes ;-)

may I ask which notebook you have?
I have a compal jhl90 and I think I'm having the same issue... my laptop shut down once after a compilation marathon... but it gets very hot running normally...
so I hope this will fix my issues too.. thanks :)

@Bruno: I knew the fan could go faster since at startup it actually it spinned faster, so i thought it could be the fan driver, looking for it i found an existing linux driver for the same brand as my laptop so i tried to add the description of my laptop and it worked :-)

Reminds me of my first and only scratch-my-own-itch kernel patch [1]. Though that was for FreeBSD, six years ago :) Trivial fix to get my MP3-player working (broken USB-stack on the device).
